Q: Are minor applicants required to appear for nonimmigrant visa interviews in person?A: In general, no. Minor applicants under 14 are not required to provide fingerprint verification or to appear in person for a visa interview. Parents or legal guardians can attend the interview on their behalf. While minors don’t need to come to the interview themselves, you must make an individual appointment for your child. Because you may need to wait for several hours at the Consulate and no play areas exist, we do not recommend bringing your children to the interview. We do not expedite applicants with children in the queue. Q: Do minors between ages 14 and 17 need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian?A: All applicants between 14 and 79 years of age must appear for an in-person interview and fingerprint verification unless they are eligible for the interview waiver program. Applicants between 14 and 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, relative, or other chaperone. Those between 16 and 18 years of age do not need to be accompanied by an adult. | U.S. Consulate General Mumbai
